Upcoming: Battle of the Bands
Laverne JeffersonAugust 28th, 2049
Already, it's time for the coolest event that SC Prep holds, the Battle of the Bands. Here's what you need to know about when it is and how to enter:
Like always, the Battle of the Bands takes place on the last Saturday before the last day of school. Or, in layman's terms, December 11th, 2049. You can find me and many other excited students, teachers, and parents at the Multi-Purpose Room (name pending) on this day, celebrating the beauty of music.
Entering into this great SC Prep tradition is quite easy. The first way is to be part of our Modern Music Styles class taught by Ms. Nicholson. Failing to be part of Battles of the Bands, either as a band or as a solo act, means that you fail immediately. Please don't fail your classes, ya'll. Unless you're on a scholarship, your folks are paying a pretty penny. Don't waste it.
So what if you wanted to enter but had other classes you wanted to take? Well, if you go to our nice school secretaries and ask super politely, they'll give you an application form. Once you fill that out, each month you'll have to arrange an appointment with Ms. Nicholson to be sure that you are actually going to perform a song.
I have been asked by the school admin that allows me to keep this website running unofficially to say one thing:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BE A FUNNY GUY AND PLAY AN UNAPPROVED SONG AT THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE THE NEXT TUBTHUMPING CHARLIE.
Now that PSA is over, let's get to the meat and potatoes of the matter: the prize. First things first: the clout. At least for the rest of the year, you'll be considered part of the cream of the crop. Secondly, each member of your group will be given $200. Not 200 dollars worth of school merch, not in school lunch money, but straight up two hundred big boys for you to do whatever you want with. Oh yeah, and lastly the winner will be given a full tour of USM Portland. Which, honestly, isn't as cool as the other prizes. But whatever floats your boat.
As of right now, last year's winner, "Electric Storm", has been confirmed as an outside participant in the Battle of the Bands. This is exciting as their lead singer, Aria Spark, is one of those lucky people who happens to have powers. While not pursuing a career in superheroism, they have made awesome use of their powers in an absolutely show-stopping performance.
At the end of the day, it's just a competition to showcase our love of music and appreciation of the people who make it. And to win $200! Who will win this? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: it's gonna be an awesome night!
